Over the last few weeks, I have been asked several times from friends if they should start a blog! My answer?
YES!
When I first started my blog, it was a place to share my recipes, crafts and coupon deals after I first became a stay-at-home mom. I was trying to find my way in this new world I created. When I had my daughter, I just found it was too hard to keep up with two children and a blog! But once again, I found my way and things got easier. My friend Darci at Everything Mommyhood encouraged me to start blogging again and I figured why not let's give it a go!
Over the course of the last year and a half, I have learnt so much and realized that by blogging, I am able to do a few things:
- Use my prior sales experience to pitch sponsorships with brands,
- Keep my brain healthy through thought and writing,
- Make a little bit of money while I stay home with my children and work when *I* want to,
- Feel validated (as a SAHM, you might be feeling like you miss that pat on the back when you do a good job from your boss),
- Feel successful when a brand loves my work or when I am able to work with a brand I fought hard to get. Or when you lovely readers leave me a positive comment!
- Have co-workers! Yes, I consider all of my blogging friends my co-workers! We all work together in a network as a team helping each other succeed!
- I feel inspired! I never felt as inspired by other people in the workplace before. When I read about the good things other bloggers are doing, it helps me strive to be a better person in my life!
Anyone can start a blog! Check out The Hub where you can get started on a self-hosted domain for only $4.99!
Are you a blogger? What is your advice to someone who is starting out or thinking about starting?

I've been blogging since 2009 more for business than anything else but it's been a lot of fun and keeps you engaged with other adults, even if it's online :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. For me it was an outlet when my now 5-year-old was born. It has become more of a business, but I say most importantly: Don't let it take over your life. Make it work with your schedule, not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteGood post Reesa!! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of the above!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you love blogging! It is so great to form new relationships and friendships!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I don't make any money off of my blog, but I do it because I love to write and it seems as though sometimes people actually like to read what I write. I don't have a lot of time to write since I work full time and have a 16 month old daughter, however, even if I let it go for weeks at a time, I'm always drawn back to it. If nothing else, I love having a journal of sorts to capture special moments, interests, recipes, etc., and to look back on! I have also made a lot of friends through blogging and it's great!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your post! You hit a lot of good points.
ReplyDeleteGreat points! I've been blogging 5 years now and I just can't quit it. I wish I could, but... it's a siren song for me, for all the reasons you mentioned. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love blogging! My advice is to know your niche.
ReplyDeleteI started blogging because it keeps me sane, lol.. people really need to do their research on hosting sites, the issue I keep having is, when I get too much traffic at one time, my host cant handle it and it disables my site for 5 minutes, which really sucks, so I'll be switching to BlueHost soon enough. Otherwise, these are great tips.
ReplyDeleteYES!! I tell EVERYONE they should blog!! haha! i seriously LOVE it and its just so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI know a lot people lately ask me how to start blogging for money. When I tell them that comes after you put in the time to grow a following they get discouraged. Don't get discouraged.
ReplyDeleteI Totally Agree You Feel Important & Definitely Keeps Your Brain Busy Great Post Thank You!
ReplyDeletePerfect! High-five!
ReplyDeleteYes! wouldn't have started if I wasn't a SAHM :)
