The Ad Council and the New York City Office of Emergency Management's Know Your Zone Campaign wants all New Yorkers to start preparing for the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season (starts on June 1st) as part of Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 25-31st).
What is the goal of the campaign??
New Yorkers! You need to know if you live or work in one of NYC's six Hurricane Evacuation Zones!!
The NYC Office of Emergency Management has ranked these zones by their danger of flooding from storm surge (ie: Zone 1 is the most likely to flood). In the event of a hurricane or a coastal storm, you may be ordered to evacuate.
Take the time to check out Know Your Zone. Know Your Zone has the information you need to know about the 6 hurricane evacuation zones. As well as the hazards you might face during a hurricane and how you can prepare.
You can also use NYC's Hurricane Evacuation Zone Finder or call 311 to find out if your home or business is in one of these 6 evacuation zones.
Make sure you understand Hurricane Hazards, so that you do not find yourself unprepared or in a dangerous situation when it is too late to make changes or preparations! The Ready New York Hurricane Guide contains instructions on how to develop a Hurricane disaster plan and how to secure your home before the storm. There is also a great map for you to get a visual idea of the 6 NYC Hurricane evacuation zones.
