Snickerdoodles

My youngest brother requested Snickerdoodles a few weeks ago.  Since he is home for Thanksgiving this weekend, I figured I'd be a nice big sister and make him some.  Please excuse the poor quality photos, my camera decided to die this week, so until Santa comes I'm using my phone.

The recipe is from Gooseberry Patch's Farmhouse Christmas Cookbook:

In a bowl, cream  1c. shortening & 1-1/2 c. sugar:
Add 2 eggs & beat:

Sift together 2-3/4 c. all-purpose flour, 2 t. cream of tartar, 1 t. baking soda, & 1/2 t. salt & add to shortening mixture.  Shape into one-inch balls, and roll balls into a mixture of 2 T. sugar & 2 t. cinnamon:
Place 2 inches apart on lightly oiled cookie sheet:

Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

  1. great pics for using your phone! my kitchen is like a cave - with those horrid CFL's - ugg! I hate my kitchen.

anyway. I don't think I have ever had a snickerdoodle - may have to try is one day!

  2. Those do look yummy! Such a simple cookie but everyone loves them. I have a confession on a shortcut. Back in the day, I worked as a property manager at a fabulous apartment community. We had one of those lovely Otis Spunkmeyer cookie ovens and the frozen dough balls. I'd bake sugar cookies and sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar just before they were done. YUM!
It looks like there is yet another Gooseberry Patch cookbook I need to order.
