The Healthgrades' Women's Health Report 2013

The Healthgrades’ Women’s Health Report 2013

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Healthgrades. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

As the glue that holds your family together, you probably know how hard it is to get everything done that needs to for your family.  Between your children, significant other, animals, and life how the heck are you supposed to find time to take care of yourself?!  You can't even get 2 minutes of peace to go to the bathroom, feed yourself or make a phone call, so how can anyone expect you to find the time to go to the doctor for a check up?  But like I said, you are the "glue", so  how can anything stay together if you aren't well?

Have you ever heard of Healthgrades?  Patients today use Healthgrades to find fair and honest information about Physicians and Hospitals throughout the United States.  Healthgrades allows patients to make informed healthcare decisions.  I've been using Healthgrades for awhile now.  My Gynecologist told me about it actually!  It's super easy to use.  You can find a doctor quickly by searching for their name, or a specialty and then a zip code.  Healthgrades will then pull up Patient Satisfaction Feedback and an overview of the Dr's specialties and background.  If you like what you see, go ahead and check insurance plans, the Doctor's location(s) and even make an appointment!

Healthgrades is advocating for Women's health.  The 2013 Heathgrades' Women's Health Report was just released and I encourage you to download and read the report - Women's Health Report.  They are encouraging all women of all walks of life to "lean in" and educate themselves about their health and healthcare.  Doing so will help you understand the risks and complications of your choices.

With diabetes, heart disease and cancer running in my family, I make sure to take care of my health and the health of my family members.  I try to stay up-to-date with healthcare and medical information.  The Women's Health Report gives information about options and complications of Maternity & Child Birth, Gynecological surgery, Bone & Joint health and Cardiovascular health.  Women and men are unique alike and it is important that we be our own advocates.

I was pretty shocked at the Infant Mortality rate that was disclosed in the report.  We have made so many advances as a country in the the way of care, yet the United States ranks #27 out of 30 nations!  A high infant mortality rate is an indicator of poor maternity care programs and initiatives.

The Women's Health Report lists hospitals in 18 states that have been awarded the Healthgrades Women's Health Excellence Aware for 2013.  Is your hospital listed?  I was shocked to see that a local hospital that I had a poor opinion of was, yet the hospital I delivered both of my children in was not.

Have you ever heard of or used Healthgrades?  Did you read the report?  If so, what resonated with you?

  1. I had never heard of Healthgrades before - neat idea. I looked up my OB who I think is absolutely fabulous and he scored a 4.8/5 which I would say it spot on!
