I am not sure if other parents feel this way, but for me, getting my children reading to read is a high priority. I try to work with my children as often as possible on letter recognition and I try to do sight words. I always feel though that what I am saying is not being conveyed the right way for my children to comprehend. My children love to use computer programs like Sprout and Disney Jr, ABC Mouse and now Reading Kingdom.
While the above programs are great for learning an all-inclusive learning experience, the Reading Kingdom is an English Language Arts program that uses effective and innovative techniques to teach students, ages 4 to 10 years old how to read and write to a third grade level. The program evaluates your child's reading level and then places them at the appropriate level in the Reading Kingdom. By doing so, it allows children who are behind or at level to read and write at a third grade level. The Reading Kingdom is also great for ESL students and students with special needs. The Reading Kingdom was designed by Dr. Marion Blank who is an expert on literacy and the author of the The Reading Remedy.
My son is 4 years old so he was on preschool level of the software. I really liked how it got him to learn how to read left to right. Many times I find him to be very sporadic in how he says his letters, so this was a skill that I was very eager for him to learn. The software gave him a few moments to think about what he had to do and then when if he couldn't find the answer, it showed him, if he still couldn't give the answer, it was given to him. The Reading Kingdom does not want you to give any influence to your child during their learning session. The Reading Kingdom expects each child to complete a level within anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks.

The software is very easy for both myself and my son to use. Once you are no longer needed to assist your child with the program, you can log on and track their progress. The Reading Kingdom also offers parents and teachers personal email support, as well as a resource center with videos, tutorials and FAQ's.
